Canadian International School – A truly international institution

Technology has opened up the entire world for us. What seemed impossible due to boundaries and lack of resources just a decade ago is now easily accessible. Dreams and aspirations, thus, have also become bigger. Children want to reach the sky and make the best use of the many resources at their disposal. However, to achieve this, they need the right kind of nurturing and support. They need international level education without the stress of actually relocating. Thankfully, we have a few such spectacular institutions in Bengaluru. Canadian International School is one of them.

About Canadian International School

The school was established quite a while ago in 1996 and it hasn’t stopped reaching milestones since. For example, in 2000, it became the first school in Bengaluru to offer the IB Diploma Program. It is also the 1st 1:1 iPad school in all of South India (2012) and subsequently the 1st Apple Distinguished School in the country (2017)!

But that’s not it. It also has done its bit for environment conservation, leading by example. It is the first school in India to completely operate on solar power.

Canadian International School is a day-cum-boarding school, which offers classes from kindergarten to grade 12. It has students & teachers from around 40 countries. It is indeed a truly international school.

Location

The school is located in Yelahanka, Bangalore. Its proximity to the international airport makes it easily accessible to parents dropping in from locations outside Bangalore. Canadian International School also provides bus facility to day-scholars on all working days.

Curriculum

Canadian International School started with the Ontario Curriculum in 1996. Soon, it got accreditations from IGCSE, IB, and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. So, it currently offers 3 curricula with a child-centric teaching methodology.

Academics

Learning at this school is a transformative process. It focuses on conceptual understanding, character development, application, and active participation. Here’s a closer look at the various programs:

Kindergarten

Also known as the preschool program, kindergarten consists of pre-kindergarten, junior kindergarten, and senior kindergarten. At these levels, kids focus on emotional, social, and physical development through an engaging, international approach that’s a blend of Ontario and Cambridge Primary curricula.

Elementary School

Grades 1 to 5 fall under the elementary school program. Children learn through thematic-enquiry and conceptual learning at this level. They focus on all-round growth through experiential learning. It is the first step towards becoming life-long members. The school follows the Cambridge Primary Program in elementary school.

Middle School

Conceptual learning takes full form in middle school through an integration of the Cambridge Program and the school’s learning program (3Cs – competency, character, and conceptual understanding)

This helps children transition easily from elementary to middle school. It also prepares them for high school.

High school

In grades 9 and 10, students follow the International Award for Young People (IAYP) program and in grades 11 and 12, they switch to IBDP. The high school program is mainly exam-based but teachers do their best to keep it engaging and student-centric.

Note: Technology-driven learning begins in middle school. Children are given iPads and other technological tools for progressive, application-based learning.

Admissions

The school’s admission process takes the child’s academic and social character into consideration. It invites students from all walks of life, regardless of geographic constraints.
