"In 1920, the Indian scenario of women education was quite depressing owing to the tremendous lack of social awareness. To popularize the concept of educating young girls and to meet the growing need of providing quality education at a reasonable cost to girl students, a small but progressive school, Marwari Balika Vidyalaya, with classes only till Standard IV, was established in 1920 in Burrabazar, under the stewardship of Shri Ghanshyamdas Birla and Shri Jugalkishore Birla by a body of enlightened members of the Rajasthani community settled in Kolkata. 3rd January 1954 saw the genesis of Shri Shikshayatan School. It is the dream child of its founder body Marwari Balika Vidyalaya Society. This is a school dedicated to the education of girl students by ensuring simultaneous development of the Spirit, Mind and Body. Since then, the school has grown in all dimensions to become a pre-eminent institution of academic excellence in the city of Kolkata. Nurtured carefully since then, the Society went on to expand its educational activities and started two more institutions Shri Shikshayatan School and Shri Shikshayatan College at 11, Lord Sinha Road, Kolkata-700 071. Both these institutions have earned acclaim over the years to become premier educational institutions in Kolkata, due to the untiring dedication of Late Sitaramji Seksaria and Late Bhagirathmalji Kanoria, two of the esteemed Trustees of the Society. Shri Shikshayatan School is a centre for providing quality education keeping in mind the rich and diverse heritage of India. "

Worst college ever!! The biggest mistake I made coming into this college. The teachers are extremely rude and full of attitude. They love to harass students mentally. They don't know how to appreciate a person's work. Please don't come into this college.

Academic wise it is good but the management and non teaching staff are not at all student friendly, they keep on harrasshing the students regarding every document starting from marksheet,TC and bonafide certificate they are never ready to listen to students problem and the biggest thing is that they never allow a student to meet the principal.
If you write a mail no one will reply you back, no one receives the call in the college number.

Very very bad college..worst college.... students attend their examinations and in the results it shows absent and even the college know that students was present but takes no action and saying to talk to university directly and not 1-2 students it has happened to many students... college just not do anything it just calls you day and night and request you to kindly appear in the exam again as due to some reason it is showing absent in the marksheet. Very irresponsible college... please don't take admission.

Very famous college located upon Lord Sinha road of Kolkata, and opposite to "Emami market" shopping complex. This school and college building is more than 100 years old having a rich heritage value, and it's located besides "Shyam Kunj" large housing complex at 12C, Lord Sinha road. This Lord Sinha road passes through this school complex and continues upto Shakespeare Sarani ( Theatre Road) of calcutta.

Worst College Decision I made.. My 3years just got into vain.. The Non teaching staffs are the most rude and arrogant persons in the college, they act like they own the place. The teachers are good. The college doesn't have their own ground, auditorium.. Whatever pictures you're seeing is of the school and not college.. College just use it sometimes when they need to.. Overall if you want to go for a private college then you better don't choose this.. My suggestion to all my junior. They don't have a specific time or rules.. The NON TEACHING STAFFS are the worst.. All of them except few. Please take care of your mental stability before taking admission into this college.

I am currently a student in this college but sadly most of the classes are not held. The air conditioning doesn't work properly, the teachers are late to class (the teachers herself will come 20 mins late to class and won't let a student inside if she is 5 mins late), sometimes we don't get place to sit because they accomodate more than 3 sections in one classrooms. Sometimes the teacher come in the classroom but they don't teach anything. Why? And by the end they will have the audacity to say we didn't get enough class to complete syllabus . If we as students are expected to be perfect then how come the teachers from whom we learn are like this?

My experience has been quite well but due to some specific reasons, it has degraded drastically. The college is undoubtedly good with good amenities and infrastructure and quite proficient and amiable teaching and non teaching staffs. The biggest drawback of the college is it plays with our hopes and expectations. Quite a lot of times the students have been promised of some things, but the college failed to accomplish them. Despite requesting the faculties to stick to their words, they paid no heed and drastically pulled down the expectations of their students which were initially set by the college itself. Due to this biggest drawback, that is, making profit at the expense of students' emotions, I'm obliged to rate it a 1 star.

They will not cancel your admission even if you haven't attended a day and then will harass you even if you fill up all forms. They'll also send your admission details to CU even if you have changed colleges and applied for TC. Then they don't reply to emails don't pick up the phone and you cannot even meet the office staff. Whatever they are doing is illegal and a scam. I don't know why this issue hasn't been raised in any CU committee till date.

Just don't go for this it's a big no..seriously they just have an audacity of harassing the students and parents mentally. There's no proper communications, and no one to guide you with your issues, just keep struggling and battling with it. So, I completed my early education (kindergarten- 12th) from this school, and applied for the graduation course as well. But after attending those I went through a lot.If you request for your subject combinations to be changed then they won't do so.. and instead they'll keep bothering you by saying no seats available. I missed my verification date because of them as they had asked to wait until the combination changes comes up but the staff members behaved in an improper manner and asked me to file tc . I requested them to have a meet with the principal. But they did not even listen to it and said not to waste thier time. The peons and other members of the college are also just similar.Inappropriate behaviour and disappointments is their biggest charm.Because of them I wasted my whole freaking year, they do not feel the urge of responding to the emails and calls done, but if you do so then they make it count . There's just one way entertainment, no one is bothered about your problems. My parents asked me not to continue my study further ,because being from a middle class family it's not possible to invest more then a limit on one member,as I'm not the only child ,and the college isn't ready to take any action on my status of refund deposited at the time of admission. I posted emails, whatsapp texts ,ranged the numbers provided but back again to the clock nothing turned up. Whom should I go to ,who will help me out of this trap ? 🥺I'm being drained and cursed all day and night . The staff members appointed feels like talking to the walls ,they make you wait for hours and then ask you to leave and return tomorrow. Will they feel justified if the same goes up with their daughters ? I went to The Calcutta University to address them my problem and the person there said it's not a concern ,the details are already available with the college get an application from your principal stating the reason .But she said a big "No*" with a closing statement of it isn't my concern. From then till date I've no updation of it . Please be polite and show some mercy 🥺😞 that's what I wish to say .

I had done my B.Ed. degree from this college. The faculty in this course were
very caring, attentive, patient and encouraging. The college is very clean. If we had any doubts we could approach the faculty members numerous times and they would listen and solve our problems with patience. I would highly recommend this college for this B.Ed. course.

It was set up on 8th July, 1955. It's a good female college. It's liked one of the best women commerce college. Commerce and English are taught in postgraduate courses. In addition to various disciplines there are honours courses in Journalism and BBA. Inter College fest " Srijan" is held every year. The annual art and cousine fair "Shree" is held before Durga Puja. Annual sports is held at the Hastings ground in Alipore.

Apart from Education, college isn’t helpful at all. They are very very RUDE. They are not autonomous college but trys to act as the one.
For transcripts they follow their own rules w/o consulting the University and harse the students.

The school can never be in the league of other best schools of Kolkata one of the core reason being bad administrators. Let me share an incident… my daughter is in ukg and today on the way she wasn’t keeping well and wanted to drink water.. I took the bottle out from her bag and left it in the car. So while she was entering the gate I took a fraction of a second to check if the bottle was still in her bag… in the process the “headmistress” was behind me entering the school… she stopped giving a stern look and in a Pretty rude tone said ‘ haato ekhan theke’ to top that the security came across as a body guard and started yelling on why was I standing in front of the gate for even less than a second ?!? Like really ?? Is this the way they are supposed to behave with parents ?? Firstly I found no difference in both their behavious .. and secondly I’m surprised there is not a bare minimum decorum of interacting with a parent by the head mistress… I think instead of big lectures they give to students they should LEAD BY EXAMPLE… the way she addresses to the teachers in front of kids during dispersal doesn’t set the right example… this is really saddening and makes me doubtful if this is the right school I chose for my kid…

Honestly I would have given 0 stars if it was possible. The staff is rude. Management doesn't care about the students. Washrooms aren't clean. No one answers the call when a student or anyone else calls the management for queries and issues but will text you 100 times a day for fees. The infrastructure is just for show. REMEMBER THAT ALL THAT GLITTERS IS NOT GOLD. Most students don't get the subject they opted for, as their General Electives and that isn't changed even after requesting in the office. The common/gym is on the 5th floor and climbing up the stairs is the only workout possible because the equipments are either broken or don't work. And let's not talk about the canteen services. I'm literally regretting taking admission here.

WORST. Its jus a institute to make student fool, when they need they call 110 times to transfer money but when comes to other way round never response to emails or calls. Why is the number provided on the website when they have no intention of picking up the call. They cheat students by not refunding them their deposits. Its been almost more then 8 month, they are not giving me my refund.
