About Bombay Scottish School

“Live as if you were to die tomorrow.

“Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.” -- Mahatma GandhiThe Bombay Scottish School has excelled, for over 169 years, in providing fine education, to the pupils entrusted to its care. In these years that have gone by, the School endeavored kindling a fire in the young minds of its pupils, preparing them for a world of tomorrow, full of challenges, so that in the words of Plato ‘they may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each.’ The School follows the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) up to the tenth grade and the Indian School Certificate (ISC) for the eleventh and twelfth grades. The School encourages the pupils to inculcate the two qualities which symbolize the Scottish character, achieving success by means of honest and strenuous effort and placing complete faith in God.The School pays special attention to needs of students with learning difficulties through sustained attention provided by specially trained staff. The student body of 3300 boys and girls is divided into four Houses viz Yellow House, Green House, Red House and Blue House. The boys’ houses Haddow, Kennedy, MacPherson and MacGregor are named after Scottish missionaries who were closely associated with the Orphanage; The girls’ houses are named after the Scottish queens Anne, Victoria, Catherine and Elizabeth.A variety of activities are offered as an integral part of the curriculum to provide each student an opportunity to develop a wholesome personality. Inter House; Intra Class competitions ensure the students imbibe a healthy, competitive spirit and loyalty to their respective houses or classes. Debates, dramatics, choral singing, elocution, math wizard, Spelling Bee, creative writing and team games like football, cricket, basket ball and throw ball are some of the activities that students can participate in.Clubs and programmes like the International Award for Young People, Dabchick Club, the Interact Club, the Adventure Club, the UNESCO Club, the Girl Guide Company, the Numismatics Club, Literary Club , the School Choir are available to the students to nurture their love for nature, adventure, and to serve the less fortunate. For students who wish to study subjects at a higher level and earn credits in universities worldwide, the school offers the Advanced Placement Programme affiliated to the College Board in the U.S.A. from the year 2013 onwards. The school has state-of-the–art laboratories for physics, chemistry and biology. Apart from two main libraries, each classroom is provided with a separate library. Three computer laboratories facilitate training the students in IT. Interactive boards linked to the school’s server are provided in the classrooms. These interactive boards help the students understand the concepts through video clippings, 3D diagrams and simulated experiments. Animated pictorial representation helps the teachers to explain with ease difficult concepts to the students. Many of the alumni have made remarkable contribution to the society as industrialists, doctors, lawyers, actors, writers and entrepreneurs. The school is proud to have provided through the 165 years of its existence, the foundation to many of the alumni to build successful careers and more importantly to become worthy global citizens.Rated as one of the best schools in India, Scottish consistently endeavours providing a fine education to all who enter its doors with ancient charm and a modern outlook.

School busses and cars of students create a lot of traffic on the main road. (triple parking on both the sides of the road). And the worst part is that the school doesn't care about this at all. No organization and system being followed absolutely. Poor management.

BSS, Mahim or Scottish - the historical Iconic school (Co-Ed) is a pride of Mumbai & the country at large. The prestigious Convent school (ICSE) with a glorious history over 175 years, focuses primarily on Education & also on extra curriculum activities, with special emphasis to sports. Sprawling play ground, garden, nostalgic Gothic style building blocks, labs, spacious library, halls, etc. Decent ambience, dedicated faculty & apt management. The Institution has outstanding Notable Alumni comprising of - Posthumous recipient of Ashok Chakra winner legend Neerja Bhanot; elegant Bollywood fraternity (Amir Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Ranbir Kapoor, Arbaz Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham, Imran Khan, Tusshar Kapoor, Sameera Reddy, Uday Chopra, Aditya Chopra, Aziz Mirza); TV personalities (Ekta Kapoor, Vikas Bhalla, Meghna Reddy, Shibani Kapur); Musicians (Leslie Lewis, Rahul Sharma), Singers (Lucky Ali), Sports (Rohan Gavaskar, Bhavik Gandhi, Jehan Daruvala), Politicians (Aditya Thackeray, Shashi Tharoor, ), Industrialists (Sanjay Hinduja, Lalit Kanodia), etc. - to name a few of the elite BSS Alma Matter.

Excellent School, well experienced teachers who are smart, well groomed, kind and inculcate discipline in kids. The best combination of academics and extra circular activities is seen in the school. Extremely organised and works really well for working parents as most of the studies are done in school with little revision to be done at home. Definitely recommend the school!

One of the bestest schools in India. This school has tutored thousands of great people including many celebrities alongside people from very normal walks of life. Definitely has a rich tradition of educational legacy which truly makes it an iconic place in Bombay.
