Founded in 1982 under chairmanship of Dr. K. P. Gopalkrishna, National Public School is a co-educational school. It is the 3rd school set up by him after NPS Rajajinagar and NPS Chennai.

NPS is home to over 2000 plus students starting from Kindergarten to class 12th. None of the grades have more than 40 students and three sections each. The faculty has years of teaching experience and have good academic records having joined the team after doing Msc, Mcom, MA, MPhil, Ph.D, etc.
The following grades are available:
-Early Years: Montessori and Kindergarten
Children join Montessori when they are three years old and Kindergarten when they are four years old and continue for three and two years respectively till they join class 1.
-Primary Years (Grade I to IV)
The academic rigorous syllabus is integrated with creativity to engage students cognitively and emotionally. The curriculum consists more of activity oriented lessons, hands on experience classes.
-Middle Years (Grade V to IX)
Students are prepared to develop a deeper understanding of the subjects with the involvement of teachers. During these years, students are also exposed to another language: Sanskrit and French in addition to English, Mathematics, Computer Science, Hindi, General Science and Social Studies.
Secondary and Senior Years (Grade X to XII)
Students are prepared to be independent learners, learning is focused through case studies, presentations, projects, etc. The students can either choose science or commerce.
Minimum age for admission at NPS is 3 years. Admission is open to children from Kindergarten, grades II to IX and XI. Students seeking to get admission in II to IX and grade XI have to appear for a written admission test conducted in April/May.

The campus has well resourced and spacious classrooms designed in a way to encourage maximum class participation. Other facilities include: Computer Labs with over 100 computers and a dedicated workforce, the science and maths labs, library that can accommodate over 150 students at one time, auditorium.
Sports facilities at campus include Football, Basketball, aerobics, throwball, cricket, gym, badminton, yoga, etc.
The school is fully equipped to handle any kind of medical emergency/ first-aids issue, proper installation of fire extinguishers, medical rooms, training is given to the students by conducting regular fire drills.
At NPS, equal weightage is given to co-scholastic programmes as is given to scholastic programmes. Activities include arts, physical education, life skills education, Bands, events organised by Times of India to increase general knowledge and social awareness.
After school hours training is conducted in activities like taekwondo, music, dance, aerobics and theatre under the guidance of professionals.
The school actively supports initiatives led by Students. One such initiative is Go Green, led by Arya Pudota (Class 12, NPS Indiranagar). Another such outreach program is handled by SEWA Association, which comprises 60 members from class 6 to 12. They conduct multiple activities and schedule events like cleanliness drives, visits to old age homes, e-waste drive, donation drives, etc.
The school has won many awards and has always been counted as one among the top 10 schools in India as per surveys. As per Times School Survey 2020-21, NPS Indiranagar has been ranked 2nd and 3rd in the survey conducted by Times of India for CBSE curriculum and for Online teaching respectively.
