Kendriya Vidyalaya, Picket – Setting Pace in the Field of Education

The history of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Picket goes back to the decade of the 1960s. On 1^st July 1964, the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan took over the reins of Air Force School in Picket. This new institution under the wings of the Sangathan came to be known as Kendriya Vidyalaya, Picket. Commencing with a small number of just 50 students and 10 teachers, the school gradually evolved into one of the most sought-after educational institutions in Hyderabad. The management firmly believes that a school’s worth cannot ever be reflected by its infrastructure or the numerical strength of the students. The only way one can gauge the credibility is through the excellence of its students in academics, sports, and performing arts.

Location

The building is located opposite Secunderabad Club in Secunderabad. The school is divided into the old and new block. 7 acres of land housing the new block was gifted to the school management by Brig. Syed, Chairman of the Vidyalaya in the year 1968.

Curriculum

The school is affiliated to CBSE. The results of the class 10^th and 12^th students speak volumes about the academic credibility of the institution. In the academic session 2016-2017, the toppers of Hyderabad in class 12^th examination for all three streams namely; Science, Commerce, and Humanities were from KV, Picket.

Infrastructure and Facilities

Situated at a prime location in Secunderabad, KV Picket provides its students with all requisites pertinent towards holistic development. The authorities maintain a firm balance between academics and co-curricular activities to ensure the healthy development of the mind and body.

Classrooms

The spacious building houses 28 classrooms. All rooms are well-equipped with facilities required to imbibe concepts with ease. The faculty comprises of skilled and experienced teachers. The facilitators render personalized attention to each student so that every child blossoms to the fullest of his/her potential. Various teaching aids are employed to make learning more interesting and fruitful.

Library

At KV Picket, the library is considered as the hub of knowledge. Books covering a wide range of topics are stocked in the library. The management utilizes this space to disseminate national and global knowledge to the students. The facilitators foster the habit of reading from the primary level itself. Teachers also make use of the facilities to improvise their skills and work more efficiently. The literary material is continuously reviewed and renewed to ensure its relevance to the users.

Laboratories

The management of the school lays high emphasis on the practical learning experience. The labs are regarded as centers of contemporary education. KV Picket has 3 science laboratories for the higher classes and one junior school science laboratory as well. There is also provision for 3 computer labs with 60 computers.

Transport

Kendriya Vidyalaya, Picket does not provide any transport facility. The parents and guardians are responsible for the transportation and security of their wards. However, the students generally hail from the Central Government fraternity such as the Defence Services, Railways, and Telecommunications. At times, transport is provided by these departments for the children of their employees at a very nominal cost.

Playgrounds

The students are offered a vast range of sports to keep them active and healthy. Basketball, throwball, volleyball, handball, cricket, athletics, kho-kho, and kabaddi - the list of games offered are endless. Competitions are organized within the school and amongst other branches of the Sangathan to cultivate team spirit and sportsmanship amongst the children.

Co-curricular Activities

The school furnishes an excellent platform to nurture creative instincts among children. Along with training in the performing arts, the students are encouraged to enroll in NCC. Such unique activities pave the way for patriotic instincts and self-discipline from an early age itself.

Academics

To strengthen education at the grass root level, the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan emphasizes joyful and activity-based learning at the primary level. Assessment is regarded as a channel for improvising a child’s ability and competency without demotivating the child’s spirit. The school implements Adolescence Education to help students cope with this special phase of life. It is a time when students understand their self-worth and experience a myriad of challenging emotions. Guided by the National Curriculum Framework, the AE aims to support and encourage adolescents to deal positively with the rapidly evolving world. The management endeavors to keep abreast with the latest advances in the education fraternity. As an initiative towards the same, Biotechnology was introduced as a subject at the senior secondary level in the year 2003.

Awards and Achievements

A school cannot reach the pinnacle without the active participation of an experienced and hard-working faculty. In the year 2004, three teachers from the school were honored with the KVS Regional Incentive Award for their meritorious services to the organization.
