Trio World Academy proudly serves as the home to Japanese Supplementary School (JSS), a special project overseen by the Japanese Consulate in Bengaluru. This program aims to assist the Japanese community in the city in maintaining a connection to their cultural heritage by providing children in Grades 1 to 9 the chance to participate in Saturday classes.
At JSS, students adhere to a curriculum designed with approved materials from MEXT, Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology. These teachings transcend beyond academic subjects, supporting students in upholding a firm sense of self and connection, even when residing far from their homeland.
However, it’s not only limited to the academic setting. The cultural events and celebrations at Trio World Academy add another layer to the experience by highlighting Japanese festivals and traditions. From lively exhibitions to joyous assemblies, these occasions enable students and their families to fully experience the traditions and festivities of Japan, promoting a strong and long-lasting bond to their cultural background. A group of high school students from Trio World Academy, led by Ms. Chandniee, Senior French and Theory of Knowledge teacher, embarked on a meaningful volunteer trip to Calais, France. Over the course of two weeks, ten students worked with the French NGO Utopia 56 at Auberge des Migrants, a refugee hostel warehouse.
Their tasks included sorting donated clothes for refugee settlements, receiving field training, and learning the dos and don’ts of refugee interaction. They also had the opportunity to meet and interact with refugees, gaining first hand insight into the refugee crisis. On their last day, the students created a large signboard for Utopia 56 as a parting gesture.
The experience left a lasting impact on the students, who reflected on the sense of contributing to a global cause, working alongside international volunteers, and feeling the indirect yet meaningful impact of their efforts.
Following the volunteer trip, these students also attended conferences at the University of Peace at Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris and participated in Mobile Learning Week workshops at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, deepening their understanding of global issues.
In an inspiring series of collaborations, TWA students have been at the forefront of diverse global projects. One, led by STEM expert Mr. Thomas Rothwell from HELP International School in Selangor, Malaysia, involved building a solar-powered racing kart, blending science, technology, and sustainability.
Looking ahead, a collaboration with Yud Dalet School in Tel Aviv is planned for the 2024-25 school year. This project aims to create innovative newsletters using cutting-edge technology.
TWA’s participation at UNESCO Mobile Learning Week in Paris saw 10 IB Diploma students engage in workshops under the theme “Skills for a Connected World,” aligned with UNESCO’s Sustainable Development Goal 4. These sessions focused on building digital standards for education in times of crisis, ensuring students are prepared for an evolving global landscape.
On October 16th, TRIO welcomed six principals from Victoria, Australia, for an enriching visit from 9:00 am to 11:45 am. The event, organized by four dedicated teachers (Ms. Lakshmi, Ms. Deepika M, Ms. Rajshree, and Ms. Salma) alongside four enthusiastic students (Sneha, Shrayva, Nishtia, and Nanda), provided a dynamic platform for shared learning. In a beautiful reciprocal gesture, students from Sakai High School in Japan contributed their own interpretations of India, capturing their visions of a country rich in heritage and diversity. This artistic collaboration between TWA and Sakai High transcended borders, intertwining two distinct worlds through the lens of student creativity.
The exhibition became a living testament to the power of art as a universal language. Students from both nations embraced the opportunity to explore, understand, and express their admiration for each other’s cultures. They entered the enchanting realms of their beloved TV shows at Universal Studios, where they encountered favorite characters and enjoyed exciting rides.
Some students in Grades 9 to 11 considered France as a second residence during a 10-day trip that immersed them in French culture. They enjoyed cultural immersion by staying with local families, appreciating authentic French cuisine, visiting historical monuments, and exploring renowned museums. The learning was abundant in the experience, from the history engraved in Paris’ stone walls to the daily life rhythm experienced with their host families. It was a trip that broadened not just their understanding but also their compassion for a different world.
Even without leaving the school grounds, TWA fosters a sense of global citizenship through vibrant in-house celebrations.
