CIS is the best possible environment for children to grow, to blossom and to evolve.

The school is excellent but both the school building and the official website don't look good. Both look very dull.Make them bright.

Although it's a great School for IB, however some esteemed teachers here like Pratik Shome indulge in private coaching to students of MHS & other IB schools, which doesn't conform to IB guidelines. He also gives out questions to his students at high prices, secretly!

I went over there for admission for my daughter. It has been more than 3 weeks since i paid the registration fees of Rs5000 and i am yet to hear back from the school regarding when the test will be. The lady at the admission office was veey grumpy and shouting at the other staff on front of visitors. Also was extremely reluctant to share the syllabus and did that only after the registration fees was paid. Not sure what is the big deal about keeping the syllabus so secretive especially when it is available in public domain for all other schools. They call themselves Kolkata s oldest international school but no actual international school would make a student wait for more than 3 weeks(and still waiting) after the registration fees is paid.

Calcutta International School Admission Procedure

CIS is a well-established, reputed, co-educational, international school situated at Kolkata serving both local and expatriate communities.

CIS believes that the primary purpose of a school is to identify and nurture each child’s talents.

We pride ourselves on our cosmopolitan culture, well-trained teachers, low student – teacher ratio, a global curriculum, and a safe & secure environment.

We welcome applicants to all classes. Applicants are requested to download the admission form from the website and follow the application process and guidelines enumerated there.

In a commitment to the safety and security of our students and all the members of the CIS community, we require visitors to make prior appointments before coming to the school. We request you to call our offices to make an appointment to tour the school and meet with the admissions officer and principals.

Admission to CIS is open to all students, whether a foreign national or one of Indian nationality.

As CIS maintains a very good teacher to student ratio (approximately 1:10, one of the best in the world), class sizes are restricted.

Preference is given to expatriates, foreign passport holders, and non-resident Indians, in that order. Our academic year is from June to May.

The threshold for admissions at the Pre-Nursery is three-year old. To maintain the unique character of CIS, certain numbers of seats are kept reserved for admissions to various classes throughout the year.

Applications for Pre-Nursery students may be made when the child is 2 or 3 years old, following the age criteria for the Pre-Nursery class as specified in the chart below. Applications for other classes are done on a rolling basis throughout the year.

Application forms can be downloaded from the link below and then submitted at the school office on any working day (Monday-Friday) between 9am – 1 pm. Applicants will then have to register by paying a fee of INR 5000/- which may be paid by a demand draft (favour of CALCUTTA INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL SOCIETY) or by credit/debit card at the school office. Please note no payments in cash are accepted.

As a part of our admission process for classes Pre-Nursery to Upper-Nursery, once the application form is submitted, the shortlisted candidate will be called for an observation.

From class-1 onwards, shortlisted candidates have to qualify for the written admission test in Mathematics and English. Successful candidates will be called for an observation session with our school counsellor followed by an interview of parents with our Board of Governors and Management. Admission will be offered subject to successful clearance of all the above mentioned steps.

Please note any attempt to bypass the normal admission process, or directly contact any senior functionary or board member to unduly influence the normal admission process, would automatically debar the application.

Many students from other schools join CIS at the ‘A’ Levels and IB Diploma Programme, for obtaining international high school certifications, which is very helpful for their higher studies abroad. For admissions to ‘A’ Levels and the IBDP, a ‘cut-off’ mark is decided every year depending on the general performance of Class 10/ IGCSE students and the availability of seats. This is followed by the usual entrance test and interview.

Age Appropriate Criteria:
