Slate – The School: Championing Life Skills in Children

The concept of using a slate as a tool for learning was once an integral part of the Indian Primary Education System. With the passage of time, ideologies transformed tremendously and high-end technology overtook the traditional concepts and tools of teaching.

Slate – The School finds its name from this age-old pivotal tool of education. The institution was conceived by the Vasireddy Educational Society in the year 2001 with the sole aim of improving the ethical standards in the education fraternity and evoking traditional values in the new generation.

The authorities strive to amend the redundant conventions of education. The institution canvasses a holistic, realistic, and futuristic approach toward learning. The school’s out-of-the-box approach to learning encourages students to be in sync with their physical, emotional, and mental development.

The faculty inspires children to use their learning experiences to make society a better place to live in. Children are taught not to limit themselves to theoretical learning. Instead, indoctrinate the new methodology of e-learning and web-based learning.

Location

Slate-The School is spread over four campuses within the city of Hyderabad. The branches are in Abids, Ameerpet, Karmanghat, and Himayathnagar. The school also shows its presence in other cities such as Vijayawada and Tirupati.

The oldest and largest branch in Hyderabad is the one in Abids, opposite Kanchanjunga Complex, King Kothi. Each school runs as a separate entity. However, the core values and standard of education remain the same throughout the branches.

Curriculum

At this school, one can get the feel of several approaches to learning. The education system is formatted in such a manner that students get to experience a perfect blend of the ICSE, CBSE, and SSC Boards as well as the Montessori.

  • The Playgroup and the Pre-Primary sections follow the Montessori pattern of learning.
  • The Primary sections abide by the CBSE pattern.
  • The High School section derives inputs from the ISCE, CBSE, and SSC Boards.

This feature of amalgamating different boards of education was implemented after intense research on students’ learning behavior. The observations and data accumulated led to this self-designed hybrid model of education which helps bring out the best in children.

There are only 25 students in each class. The school maintains a 1:10 teacher-student ratio. This helps impart personal attention to each child.

Laboratories

The laboratories are well-equipped to conduct scientific experiments, tests, and investigations. The school has fully functional Chemistry, Physics, and Biology labs. Most of high school students spend a lot of time in the labs acquiring practical knowledge to supplement the theoretical concepts imbibed, especially in science and computers.

Co-curricular Activities

Slate – The School believes that printed knowledge is not sufficient for the holistic development of the child. There have to be parallel activities in sync with learning to accomplish overall development. The faculty pays immense attention to Sports, Yoga, Music, Dance, Art, and Craft, and Karate to facilitate interests beyond the text.

Academics

Exceptionally well-qualified and experienced faculty members put enormous effort to bring out the best in every child. Innovative methods of education are encouraged.  ‘To learn while you play’, is the primary line of thought and operation. Each child is motivated to communicate and apply concepts learned with utmost confidence. The faculty concentrates on three aspects:

  • Holistic Education – A multi-sensory approach is employed to ensure that the students carry concepts imbibed in the school years with them throughout their lives.
  • Realistic Education – Common sense is combined with a scientific approach to meet the requisites of routine life.
  • Futuristic Education- Innovative tools of learning are implemented to take learning beyond the four walls of the classroom.
