Sancta Maria International School in the News: Setting Benchmark for Achievements

A Gist of Sancta Maria International School:

Sancta Maria International School has been an impeccable name amongst the best schools in Hyderabad since its inception in 2011 under the Saint Mary’s Educational Society. Mr. B. Arogya Reddy laid the foundation of the Society in Hyderabad in 1981. Ever since, the Saint Mary’s Society has nurtured a remarkable legacy in the education sector which Sancta Maria International reflects in its conduct, aspirations and most importantly, the achievements — the focal point of this blog. Being an international school, Sancta Maria prioritizes a global mindset complemented by innovative approach, and critical thinking. Sancta Maria joined the prestigious International Schools Partnership (ISP) group in 2022 with the same vision. This global network threads together around 77 schools, to serve kids ages 2 to 18 by positively shaping educational means and methodology for them.

Now, let us enlighten you on why Sancta Maria has been in the news with its achievements of late so that you know, that it’s not one of those dubious claims when reviews call Sancta Maria one of the best international schools in Hyderabad.

A Show of Prowess at ISP MUN by Sancta Maria Students:

Recently, 14 students of Sancta Maria took part in the International Students Partnership MUN with indelible research paper contributions. You must’ve heard of MUN, which is a 3-day conference and replicates the United Nations General Assembly in structure for educational purposes. The conference was held virtually and over 300 students from around 70 schools participated in it. It was a part of ILOS—International Learning Opportunities for Students, a learning programme which connects ISP students from about 21 countries.

It provided them with a platform to engage in debate over matters of social consequences. Communication, leadership, problem solving, critical thinking, diplomacy, management, are some of the skills that are honed through such engagements. A student shares how that ‘diverse’ environment was helpful in instilling confidence and a wider perspective.

The theme for the conference was ‘Collaborative Solutions for Sustainable Development’ and it was implemented considering the UN Sustainable Development goals. Categories of people, planet prosperity and peace were formed with discussions on how to bridge the digital divide, women empowerment, combating drug cartel violence, combating pharmaceutical pollution, healthcare, migrant safety.

One of the students was elected Dais Member for the UNCTAD Committee, an eminent opportunity given to only 10 students that are selected at the international level. Two students won the Best Delegate Award, one of which was also elected to be one of the Plenary Speakers at the Concluding Session. One of Sancta Maria’s students received the Award of Merit for a remarkable contribution.

Global Appreciation and Grant in the ISP Changemakers Programme:

Two of the students sent in their projects to ISP under the ISP Changemakers Programme that received grants for their future implementation. The Changemakers Programme encourages students to come up with ideas to tackle social issues for which it equips them with essential tools and methodologies for such purposes.

One of the projects ‘Courteous Conversation Crusade’ aims for a healthy online environment by eliminating inappropriate language in collaboration with several social media platforms and digital rights organizations. It has laid out a code of conduct that would include educational materials in the form of online guides and webinars, AI-based content filters and a report option for offensive content. Awareness for the need of a healthy online community is also one of its objectives.

The other is a project proposed by the primary level students that addresses the harm unhealthy food lifestyle causes to children’s overall health as well as call for revision of such food choices. Age-appropriate questionnaires and nutritional guidelines, recipe booklets and art competitions, inter-house competitions, creation of a school kitchen garden that shall give seasonal organic produce— are some of the measures and initiatives this project includes to engage the community.

The student spoke of the project that it makes one embrace the impact a slight change in our meal can have. Making reasonable and sustainable choices that align with the essence of ISP Changemakers which is —healthy food choices result in a healthy lifestyle which result in a healthy body and thus healthy minds.

The Principal was all applause for the students, calling them architects of positive change, catalysts of a sustainable future, and their project— an example of the revolutionary power of collective efforts.
